that was typed on a cell, apologies for the terrible punctuations and brevity
Felix, if you fully uninstall and reinstall just 2.1 fresh, it should work properly. We apologize for the inconvenience.
thanks. its working great now. can we bring back the preview feature nowk? :b)
Preview should be back in the next release or two. It's in the works.
Love baconreader but the latest version (2.4) does not work very well on my galaxy s3.the app freezes, hangs, and sometimes even crashes frequently. Most notable is the slowness. For example, when I click a link to view an imgur image, or clicking to view a post, switching screens can take a while. Definitely not performing as well as it used to.
yes this new version seems very buggy is there a way to put the old one backk?
I wanted to take a day before reporting back, but I went ahead and uninstalled baconreader and reinstalled and it is working great now.
May have been an issue where an upgrade doesn't work so well, but a fresh install did the trick for me.
Sorry for the inconvenience - as Chad has noted, it appears that there are some issues when using the app after upgrade for some users.
In most cases, uninstalling and reinstalling seems to provide significant improvements.
If that doesn't make a difference for you, Brent, let us know.
Yesterday I read that a lot of old guard Reddit users feel that Reddit is over populated and inundated with senseless memes on the front page. In the interest of preserving some.of its former simplicity, default subreddits assigned to new accounts might limit the number of image type subreddits and include some more technical type defaults.
Additionally, is there a bacon reader I can pay for so that I don't have to accidentally click ads that crash both baconreader and my phone in one fell swoop?
Thanks for the app and for taking the time to read these feedback tickets.
Brandon, I saw that article also and thought it made several interesting points about the evolution of an online community. BaconReader uses the default subreddits unless modified by the user, so if they change the defaults to new accounts, they should change in BaconReader as well - but we'll definitely be on the lookout.
You can purchase BaconReader in-app in the settings, or from Play as "BaconReader Premium" which doesn't have any of the ad required permissions. If you purchase in-app, the permissions aren't used anymore (we promise) but they're still there, and some redditors are sensitive to that.
I find it far too easy to bring up that "reply, user, link" menu when viewing comments. With the longer comments, just the slightest touch will initiate this menu, which is frustrating when I'm trying to simply scroll through a comment. I'm using a HTC Evo V, if that makes a difference.
Eli, this is mainly an issue on HTC sense 4.x devices. If you hit any little bit left or right of center, it will slide vs. scrolling. Our developers continue to work on this, but it's not been easy.
after viewing a youtube post on baconreader, when i press the back button on my note 2 it wont go back go the baconreader app. It will go to my internet browser. It did not do this before. Thanks
Do you have open links inside app on or off? Is readability currently set to on or off? I have a Note 2 here with the Open Links Inside App setting on and going to a YouTube video then going back returns me to the BR page as expected. Is this with links that are the main post, or comment links, or both?
Just installed latest update. When I select random from my list of subreddits and then hit the refresh icon on the bottom toolbar it refreshes the currect subreddit and does not trasfer to a new subreddit. The old build used to use the refresh button as a shuffle.
Links containing the "&" symbol get changed to "&" which ruins the link.
Thanks Matthew. We know there are some linking issues and they're still being worked on. Do you have an example? That would be helpful.
Can't edit so *shrug*. Links containing "&" get changed to "&.amp;" (without the period) in the address bar, which ruins the link.
Didn't see your comment until I posted new one, sorry. Example is http://community.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&nbid=74273 doesn't link properly because the & gets changed
Sigh did that backwards. There shouldn't be an .amp; in that URL.
Selecting the option "Do not show read posts" is filtering out tons of brand new unread posts after a fresh install, cleared cache, cleared app data in the latest update. I've rebooted and tried several options. Turning the do not show setting back off restores all the read posts. On a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with latest firmware on VZW.
Michael, do you see this when you first install the app, or does it creep in after time? Is this in all subreddits, or do you notice it primarily in "All"?
Hi Onelouder, I just moved back to android from iOS and like your Bacon reader app, it's up there with Alien Blue. But one feature that is sorely missing is the ability to open the link from within the comments. I would expect to be able to tap on the image/link at the top of the comments but I can't, I have to back out to the subreddit and then click the link. Doesn't that seem silly?
Hi Daniel,
There's a link icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen on the comments page that you can tap to go directly to the link without having to go back.
It would definitely be helpful to be able to click directly on the link title or inline image (if enabled in settings) to go straight to the link. We are looking into that.
Hi Eric,
Thanks for the quick reply. I had one more suggestion that you may or may not find useful. I found it surprising that when the fullscreen button is clicked it does not get rid of the bottom toolbar. Might i suggest a transparent button that slides out that menu on demand when in full screen mode and autohides when the user taps somewhere else, or you could add the slide menu functionality to the title/subject box to make it work the same way as the rest of the comments (that would keep the navigation/interaction method consistent across the entire app). It feels like fullscreen should be true fullscreen.
I made a post, in memoriam to my cat, and they deleted it; no explanation as to why. He was sleeping in the pic. Wtf reddit administrators? >:|
Sorry for the trouble. We're looking into the photo issue where the automod deletes pics. You can find a post on it in r/baconreader here:
