Slices Desktop Beta feedback

Hey guys. At the moment the slices desktop beta is lacking some features that would make it so much more user friendly.

At the moment in order to add someone to a slice you need to edit your slices, pick the slice you wish to add someone to, and add them from there. Is it possible to add a function that allows you to add an account to a slice from its profile?

Another problem with adding people en masse from the slice edit menu is that not every account you follow is loaded into the list. Accounts I have been following for a while do not show up.

Say I find an account that I would like to both follow and add to a slice from the desktop client; when following the new account, it isn't put to the top of the aforementioned "add to slice" list. The account I wanted to add was situated halfway down for some odd reason.

Direct Messages are loaded with the oldest being first in the list. For long conversations this means you need to scroll all the way to the bottom each time you enter your Direct Messages, and again after you send a message.

Twitpic and yfrog images seem to load selectively. Half of them work, and the other half do not.

Trends would be a welcome addition. I know it is possible to access Worldwide trends from the bookmarks but that seems to be a "Coming Soon" feature in the beta.

Other than these shortcomings it's a solid idea and may well be on its way to becoming my favourite Twitter app :)

Great feedback -- Thanks for providing such great detail.  Specific responses below...

There will be a button next to unfollow in profile to add to slice -- update coming soon

An update later this week should address the issue of only seeing most recent 100 followers when editing a slice.

When you tap follow, a button will immediately appear letting you add them to a slice.  This will be coming soon

Good point on Direct Message ordering -- will look at correcting this.

Will look at Twitpic and yFrog issues

Tap Explore button (next to search at top) and there is a Trends section that lets you view trends

Hi Guys:

Is there any way to clear a column of tweets after they have been read?  I know you plan on the feature of syncing tweets from desktop to smart phone which I am so excited about but what about just clearing a column now?  If that can happen I can use this as my primary desktop client and beta test the heck out of this for you.  When I say column I mean any view with tweets in it such as a timeline or a list view.

A bug I believe I have found is when I am viewing tweets from one of my private lists, the list does not receive new tweets.  The times on the old tweets get older but no new ones come in.  Again, I have private lists and members are also people I follow.  I am thinking of moving people to slices so I can have the functionality back but I would like lists to work again.

I can't wait to see what you have planned.  You're doing a great job!

Thanks so much,

L

Hello,

I started using the beta today and slices a bug I noticed was, people I zip it, not being hidden in the timeline. Do not know if it has already been reported, but it was what I noticed immediately.

Thank you,

I am loving the beta. For what I do already my favorite twitter app and I know improvements will further enhance the experience. Just wanted to say thanks for opening it up.

twitlonger intergration would be excellent , having it also as a chrome add-on would be good or tweetcaster (tweetcaster rules ), timeline to appear automatically instead of have to click the ? new tweet/tweets

this is just my personal opinion btw

also when writing @personsname it would be good if it showed for eg ~@onelouderapps or @verge when you put the first letter in , some people i forget there @names or some people have different name than what you would think for them  and have to search on my phone what their @ names are ...

I just started using Beta today and so far I like what I see. It doesn't quite have all the features that iphone app has like being able to post to multiple accounts like facebook but I know it's beta. So far so good. It's my favorite mobile app and I like it as a desktop app too.

I'm quite a visual browser, so missing the thumbnail loading of ie Instagram images.

I also see copies of tweets appearing in one slice. Admittedly, the accounts of that slice are all ALSO in (several) other slices.

Support for image display of additional image services is coming soon.  We are looking at the duplicate tweet bug and will hopefully have a fix soon.  Thanks

Hi, I am using the beta and would like to know if it is possible to keep me logged in? Second I am having issues with the links in tweets. In stead of opening in a new tab (what I have as a preference in Chrome) the link opens in a window that is already in use. If that could be changed if would be awesome.

Check the 'Keep Me Logged In' check box next to the Login to Twitter button on the first screen.  We need to make this more obvious.  Links opening in same window is a known bug that will be addressed soon.  Thanks!

Hi,

That is not what I mean, every time I restart my computer I have to authorize the app again. There is no possibility to check keep me logged in on the authorization page for me.

I think the problem is that we provide two ways to login to the web app and only one of the ways provides the 'Stay Signed in" option.  We will change site.  In the meantime, if you click the Stay Signed In box and then click Sign Into Twitter button at the top of the Slices.me page it should keep you logged in.

I like it.  Keep up the good work.  So happy there is a web version.  Makes life easier.

Tap Zip It option in a tweet from them.  In the next update (coming very soon) you will also be able to do this from their profile.

Thank you.  Zip It is probably my favorite feature on this app.  I like to say "Zip It, Bitches" when I do it.

With ZipIt, once you've zipped someone, it can become obtrusive to see a slice which now may be full of zip lines mixed in with the good feeds. It would be nice if zipped feeds were visible somewhere else, but not visible in the normal slice feed view.

An option to not show zippers at all is in the plans.  Will look at an option to have this on in timeline but not in slices.

I have noticed today, that when I'm watching a slice, and there appears the text telling me that there have been a number of new tweets and click on it to refresh the slice, tweets from general Timeline show up. I'm sure of this, because I have a slice without NFL tweeters and suddenly appeared a tweet telling me last game's winner XD

I hope this can be fixed as it is one of the greatest improvements of Slices.

Thanks in advance and continue supporting this great app. ;)

The number next to timeline (in left pane) is showing that there are new tweets in the timeline, not necessarily in the Slice you are viewing.  Clicking on that will take you back to the Timeline view.  We do not currently show you an indication that new items have arrived in an individual Slice --- we need to and will.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself properly. I didn't mean in left panel. I meant in the scrolling panel, where tweets are shown. When new tweets are detected I can read "4 new tweets", for example. It seems that clicking on it will bring those new tweets, but without filtering by the active slice. So tweets from the main Timeline are shown.

I miss a way to refresh or reload the active view/slice.

Desktop compared to Android app ... I have serious issue with speed and accuracy.

(For reference: Phone=Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Nexus w/Android 4.0.4, but connected via wi-fi. Computer= Win7 64bit with a 30mbps cable pipe)

I created a Slice for a group of TV show tweets and I just did a test. On the phone, the slice comes up nearly instantaneously. Great! On the computer, after a full minute, only 5 tweets were shown, and it somehow lost one in the middle! How it that possible to have such vastly different performance on two different platforms? How can the Android App (even via wi-fi) be so much faster than a hardline connected desktop?!

Slices has many of the things I want (though, I can think of some general improvements to make Slice management easier). But right now, the desktop performance is beyond excruciatingly painful.

Just got pointed to your app/program - love it!

Works wonderfully on the computer and my Android phone.  If I could offer one suggestion, it would be to have the web app notify on particular settings (like mentions, direct messages, etc), similar to the phone app.  I'm not savvy enough to know if you could do that with pop up windows or just make my browser window blink or how that would work.  That's really the only thing that's got me keeping a desktop app running at the moment - that instant notification.

Thanks for the app!
