My Experience with the New Slices

I’m trying out the new Slices. I know the program is in the early stages of development.

Here are a couple of my recent observations. This isn’t as much a request for help as it is a posting of current issues.

Slices v1.2 on Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S), Android 2.3.5 – Slices installed on external/USB storage. Later moved to internal.

  • Once selected, the screen goes blank for 30+ seconds while the program loads and before the posts show. Moving program to internal storage does not alleviate problem. Issue is consistent.
  • Loading new tweets can stall and frequently crashes the program. No force close option – just disappears. Issue is intermittent.
  • New tweets indicated but, when I pull to load they don’t load. New tweets show when I click the little house icon, pop-up displays new tweets. Issue is consistent.
  • When I get FCs, they don’t always close the program. It often freezes. Issue is intermittent.
  • FYI: I have TweetCaster loaded on my phone too.
  • Feature Request: Need shorter times for ‘Update Notifications…’ Prefer every 30 seconds, every 1 minute, etc.

I’ll post more as I find them.

Joseph,

Some of these are issues we are chasing. Some we haveseen other reports of but have not been able to reproduce - though we're looking into them.

30+ seconds of blank screen we've seen other reports of, but have yet to see this in house.

The load new tweets crash we have not seen, but, we did fix a lot of things in 1.3 based on crash logs so we'll keep checking the logs to try and get these taken care of.

We have seen some oddities on new tweets coming in and being told about, but not showing as available immediately.

We have also seen where numbers shown in shortcut bar does not match numbers shown in nav pane

We're not sure on Force Closes that freeze

On the shorter updates, those settings apply to background notifications.  When you're in the app we update every 90 seconds.  Most users probably don't want background updates for notifications that frequent when not in the app from a battery drain standpoint.

Thanks for taking the time to capture all these for us.  We will have the next update coming soon.

I upgraded to version 1.3.  I'll give it a run through the paces and report back.

Here's a quick update.  I've upgraded to 1.4.  Slices is much more stable.  In general less Force Closes.

One consistent issue is when using the internal HTML/Web browser.  If I use the phone 'Back' button, Slices goes back and immediately reloads the web page again.  If I press the 'Back' button too many times, the program closes - as it should.

I would love to see a close confirmation popup.  That way, I don't have to re-open the program if I've done something (like previously mentioned) to accidentally close Slices.

I will continue to put the program through it's paces and post back the results.

Thanks.

Joe
