Custom privacy settings

After installing Friendcaster, when I "check-in" from somewhere on facbook, I noticed that the privacy setting were not what I wanted. I went into Facebook's privacy settings for the app and set them like I want. But everytime I check-in, I still have to change the settings manually. What am I missing?

Hi, could you let us know what it is posting as that is incorrect based on your settings?  Mine seems to post to "My Friends" with no option to change that.

I have customized Facebook to not allow certain people to see things like check-ins. I have different settings for different types of posts. When I check-in through Friendcaster, and then go back to facebook and check the privacy for individual check-ins, some of the people that I have blocked are listed there, but not all. As I said,  I have since adjusted my privacy settings for Friendcaster within facebook. But still, when I check-in through Friendcaster and then go back and check the privacy, it still does not show all the names that should be blocked. As an example, I have also customized my privacy settings for Twitter posts that forward to Facebook. Those settings stay as they should, but not Friendcaster. I don't know whether uninstalling and reinstalling Friendcaster would help.

Sounds like you're a power user on the Facebook front (probably more knowledgeable on some of the settings on the Facebook side than I), but I can't for the life of me find a way in Facebook to restrict who sees "checkins" separate from other things.

The only specific check-in related privacy option is setting whether or not friends are able to "tag" you in one of their checkins. From what I can tell, you're only able to do the following (combining Facebook and FriendCaster's options)...

A) Tell Facebook to only allow ALL of FriendCaster to post to a specific group of your friends. Then no matter what the user chooses in Friendcaster, it will only be posted to whomever is in this setting.

B) Tell Facebook that FriendCaster's posts can be fully public, THEN in FriendCaster you can restrict status updates to a specific group or individuals... checkins are not impacted by this though, and they will be public. Friendcaster doesn't allow you to set who can see a checkin like we do with posts.

C) AFTER posting a status message or checkin, within Facebook you can "edit" who should be able to see that post. But this is done adhoc by the user... not by a system unless you've got an extra "app" that scrubs your posts for you.

You can't restrict certain people from seeing checkins in facebook per se, but as you mention in option A, when I first discovered this problem, I went and changed the privacy options for all of Friendcaster to only allow certain people to see posts including checkins. The changes are still there in the privacy settings. But as I said, when I post a checkin from Friendcaster and then go back and see the post on Facebook, the only ones restricted from seeing it are the same ones who were restricted by default from the beginning. It's always missing a couple of names that I want to restrict. Thus far, I don't post status updates via Friendcaster, but perhaps I will try changing the default restrictions on those and see if it affects checkins.
