Tweetcaster: URL opening options (tablet)

Hi,

Whenever I tap a URL in Tweetcaster on my tablet (Nexus 7), Tweetcaster opens it in my default browser. This is regardless of the URL setting in options (Open/Copy Link/Ask etc).  Changing this setting seems to make no difference.

I'd like to enable the behaviour Tweetcaster uses on my phone: It opens a box asking what I would like to do with the URL, but most usefully it also expands the t.co or bit.ly address to show the actual destination URL.

How can I make the tablet version do this, please?

Thanks,

Andy

The tablet should behave more like the phone.  Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app?  If not, thats' the first thing I would try.  Unfortunately you'll have to re-establish your accounts and settings, but hopefully that will clear things up.

Hi Eric. Thanks for the really fast reply. Unfortunately a reinstall did not help with this problem.

What is strange is I have discovered that if I force the phone UI in settings, the app behaves as I would expect: if I click a URL, a dialog asks me what I want to do with it, and expands the shortened URL.  I can't make this happen on the tablet UI, even with the URL setting set to "Ask".

The attached screenshot is using the phone UI. It is this dialog I am trying to activate in the tablet UI.

Cheers,

Andy.

I've tested this out and am seeing it also now.  This must have been broken very recently as I know it's not been long since I used this feature on a tablet.  I'll need to report it to our development team.  Thanks for pointing this out.

Hi,

I reported this to our product manager and he said this is the intended behavior (I don't use the app on Tablet daily, so am not as familiar with the tablet functions.  He said that this is how it has always worked on tablet where the links are directly selectable in the tweet text. If you select the menu from each tweet, you can select the URL and get the behavior you would see on phone which honors the setting.

He noted that this is understandably confusing if you’re modifying the settings and expecting to see an impact when tapping on URLs. The thought was tapping on the URL should be quick to open, and if you wanted further options (copy, read later) you could select the URL from the menu.

Hi Eric

Sorry for the delayed response, and thank you for the info about using the menu - I hadn't noticed that, and it works great for me.  Loving the updated tablet UI - great work!
